Wow!

About all you can say initially is wow! What a game! It was a great finish to a great day for Green Bay and the Packers. We definitely did a good thing for football yesterday. Being center stage was kind of nice. King for a day.

As far as the game itself the Packers’ offense came out smoking. Aaron Rodgers showed once again he is the top signal caller in the game today. The reigning Super Bowl MVP threw three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, staking the Packers to the early lead in a what we knew was going to be a shootout.

With all the weapons the Packers have on offense, when healthy like they are right now, they are virtually unstoppable. One thing we might see over the course of the season is James Starks taking over at running back from Ryan Grant. Starks just looks bigger and better right know and as long as he stays healthy he is going to only get better and better.

As good as the Packers were on offense through the air, the Saints and Drew Brees were even better. I thought Bob Sanders was coaching the defense again, reminded me of when Matt Schaub and the Texans ran up 555 yards against the Packers in Lambeau in 2008.

For giving up so many yards though, the defense made some big stops that kept the Saints from coming back. The stop on downs deep in Packers’ territory and of course that last play. The early fumble recovery was huge too, because it allowed the Packers to get out to a two score lead early. That is always big against an offense like the Saints that can score quickly and usually does.

I’m going to give the defense another game or two before I bury them. The Packers won’t face an offense like the Saints the rest of the season probably. In all reality it is probably best not to get too hyped up by the offense nor too down on the defense. It’s only one game.

It’s off to Carolina next week for a game the Packers will be heavily favored to win. The Packers need to stay focused this week to avoid a let down against the Panthers. Having the weekend off should help that I think.

More on the Panthers later though, I’m going to enjoy this one a little longer.
