Packers-Panthers Game Blog

11:58 AM: It is time!

12:06 PM: Cam Newton comes out firing and the Packers’ decision to defer looks to be a bad one. Panthers marching right down the field. First down inside the 15.

12:09 PM: Packers’ pass defense is not good thus far this season. Newton is good but guys are running wide open.

12:14 PM: Panthers lead 7-0. Newton actually threw two TD passes this drive. so far only one counts. Under review. Defense offered no resistance for 85 yards. Wow!

12:20 PM: From hero to goat in one week. Cobb fumbles kickoff and Panthers about ready to take a 14-0 lead. Wow again! An upset in brewing. This game is on the Packers’ defense now, and they are playing horribly right now. Bishop with a roughing penalty now.

12:29 PM: Held them to 3. Could be huge in a shootout, which this has the makings of. A-Rod finally takes the field. Grant for no gain.

12:30 PM: Two plays for minus one. Now a false start, 3rd and 16. Three and out.

12:37 PM: Packers must have made pregame decision not to cover Steve Smith. Panthers now first and goal inside the 2. Packers getting an old fashioned butt-kicking at this point.

12:44 PM: Held them to 3 again, but we better get something going offensively now. Three and out again and this game could be over.

12:55 PM: Touchdown Packers! Kuhn runs it in to cap the most important drive of the season so far. Gave the defense a rest and a little time to make some adjustments. Have to stop them now.

1:07 PM: Offensive line not protecting well today. Rodgers doesn’t have time to find the open man. Receivers not getting open quick enough either. Would love to be within six still at halftime. Panthers have the ball with 5:46 left. Newton runs and gains ten. Making it look easy.

1:12 PM: Packers give them a first down by penalty again. Panthers driving again.

1:14 PM: The rookie finally makes a mistake and Charles Woodson is there to make him pay. Packers take over. Two minute warning, second down and one at the GB 44. Points here would be huge.

1:21PM: Jennings with back to back drops and now the Panthers are threatening. Packers should have punted there. McCarthy’s second coaching error of the day.

1:26 PM: I got my wish. 13-7 at the half. Hopefully we weathered the storm. We get the ball first. How big would it be to go down and take the lead?

1:45 PM: Touchdown Greg Jennings! Packers lead 14-13. That is the way the offense is supposed to work. They have three straight plays for a first down. The run slowed the pass rush just enough for Rodgers to make some plays.

1:50 PM: C-Wood with his second pick! Packers back in business deep in Panther territory.

1:53 PM: Jermichael Finley drops a sure touchdown and the Packers have to settle for three. bad play by Finley. Big time players make that play.

2:05 PM: Woodson recovers a Steve Smith fumble and the Packers can take a commanding lead if they can score a touchdown. 3rd and goal from the one.

2:07 PM: Go for it.

2:08 PM: Should have went for it. They are letting the Panthers stick around.

2:12 PM: Another turnover for the Panthers, this time a Burnett interception. Newton looking a little less confident now. We have to get a touchdown here now.

2:16 PM: Crabtree whiffs and Rodgers is sacked, holding in Sitton, and the Packers are about to blow this scoring chance all together. Come on man!

2:20 PM: Packers add three. Failing to score touchdowns always comes back to haunt you. We need a touchdown bad.

2:26 PM: Packers’ defense have not really stopped the Panthers all day, they have stopped themselves. And they are on the move again. Inside Packer territory.

2:29 PM: Terrible play by Woodson let’s the Panthers get a third and long. Nick Collins hurt on the play, looks like concussion. I sense 23-20 here shortly. Emphasis back on Packers’ offense to put this thing away.

2:32 PM: Bad neck injury for Collins. Doesn’t look good, but they always error on the side of caution when it comes to neck injuries.

2:39 PM: Held them to three again. 23-13. Need a long grind it out drive to burn some time off the clock.

2:44 PM: Holding penalty on Bulaga to start the drive. What a horrible mistake.

2:46 PM: Stuplid play call and even worse execution and it is three and out for the Packers.

2:51 PM: Defense just can’t get off the field. Now a big completion on third and 20 gives the Panthers a first down. Amazing. Without Tramon Williams and now Nick Collins the Packers are in big trouble.

2:54 PM: Panthers inside the 15. We simply can’t stop them. The Packers’ defense obviously has some problems. Last week was not a fluke.

2:58 PM: Turnover on downs! Now, can the offense run out the clock? They talked about it all week. Time to live up to it.

3:00 PM: There is the dagger! 84 yards to Jordy Nelson! 30-16 Packers with 2:14 time remaining.

3:13 PM: I’ll take 2-0 but the Packers have a long way to go be a good team. Finishing drives on offense and getting off the field on defense. It’s the Bears next week and the Packers will have to play a lot better to win in Solders Field. Out.
