Packers face stiff challenge in Denver

The Green Bay Packers will face their stiffest challenge of the year when they visit Denver tomorrow on Sunday Night Football. Having not beaten a team with a winning record the Packers now face the 6-0 Broncos, who own the NFL’s best defense after seven weeks.

I have a bad feeling about this one. I don’t think the Packers will be able to move the ball on the Broncos’ defense but I think Peyton Manning will be able to move the ball on the Packers’ defense. If the Packers are to win I think it will have to be on the back of Eddie Lacy. If Lacy can return to form the Packers will have a chance. That means running and catching the ball.

I think the Broncos will follow the blueprint used by the San Diego Chargers against the Packers’ defense and pick the Packers apart with the short timing routes. I could easily see Manning throwing 50 passes in this one. It’s hard to get an interception or a sack when the ball is out so quickly. However, it doesn’t lead to a lot of points because it takes so many plays to get down field. The Packers held the Chargers to 20 points even while giving up 503 yards.

In this game, 20 points will probably be enough to win it. Who would have thought that with Aaron Rodgers and Manning on the field? I’m guessing neither team hits that mark but Denver does enough to pull out a 17-16 win.
