The Green Bay Packers return to Lambeau Field tomorrow in a make-or-break game to start the second half of the season. Fortunately for the Packers they face the 1-7 Detroit Lions who are giving up the most points per game in the NFL. The Packers’ offense might be able to build a little confidence after coming alive in the second half last week against Carolina.
Of course, if the Packers think it will be a cakewalk, they may be the first team to lose to Lions in Wisconsin since 1991. The Lions, after all, were a playoff team last year. Yes, they have stunk so far this year, but they still have some offensive weapons that could cause problems for the Packers reeling defense, who have given up an average of 480 yards a game the last three weeks.
Certainly returning to Lambeau will help the Packers, who are in desperate need of a win. It’s the first of four games that will go a long way in determining the NFC North division champions. If the Packers win all four they will take a stranglehold on division title, but by no means clinch it. Not with the Cowboys at home and trips to Oakland and Arizona in the final four weeks of the schedule. The last game against the Vikings could be the difference.
I think the Packers will get back in the victory column but I don’t think it will be easy. I’m thinking the Packers get out to an early lead then hang on for dear life to win 27-24.
