The Green Bay Packers ended their four-game losing streak in style, dominating the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia last night. They did it with a ball control passing game on offense and just enough on defense to shut down Eagles’ rookie quarterback Carson Wentz.
It was a much needed win for the Packers if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Packers have three of their last five games in Lambeau Field, and play all three fellow NFC North teams as well. It’s not an easy schedule, though, with home games against Houston and Seattle the next two weeks. At 5-6 and out of the playoff seedings right now, the Packers will need some help in addition to winning at least four of those five to have any chance at postseason play.
Aaron Rodgers played his best game of the year in my opinion, spreading the ball around and making smart runs that avoided injury and picked up key first downs. Rodgers did hurt his hamstring in the third quarter but it doesn’t appear to be serious.
The Packers’ defense blitzed relentlessly against Wentz and while they did give up some huge passes, they also got home a few times and forced several errant throws. They won’t be able to do that against a good quarterback, so you can’t read too much into holding the Eagles to 13 points.
The Packers will need to beat the Texans to make me believe they have a chance to get back in this thing, but at least they are still clinging to life.
