Two cuts I already don’t like

The Green Bay Packers are making their final cuts today and a couple of them I already don’t like. How on earth can you keep Kyler Fackrell over Reggie Gilbert? Fackrell has been nothing short of horrible this year following a less than stellar rookie year. All Gilbert did was make plays left and right. Yeah, he gave up a TD run in Denver, but he is easily a better linebacker than Fackrell.

At receiver the Packers basically kept four. The other two, Jeff Janis and Trevor Davis are special teams players. I can’t believe the Packers would go into the season with only three real receivers on their roster. Allison is suspended for the first game. Max McCaffrey would have been a nice safety valve against the Seahawks’ defense on opening day. A guy who is always open and always catches the ball.

I would really like to know why Ted Thompson drafted DeAngelo Yancey and Malachi Dupre. Two wide receivers on a team that apparently didn’t need wide receivers. Instead of helping the pass rush, they cut two guys they didn’t need. Very strange.

So has it stands now, pretty much the same lame-ass linebackers they had last year will be leading the way this year. I do expect the Packers’ secondary to be better this year and they will have to be. They will have to stay in coverage for a long time with no pass rush to help them.

I’ll reevaluate after I see the final roster and subsequent moves, but I think cutting Gilbert and McCaffrey were mistakes. I hope they can keep them on the practice squad anyway.
