Saints at Lambeau brings back great memories

The Green Bay Packers will host the New Orleans Saints Sunday in Lambeau Field and for me it brings back memories of one of the best nights I have ever had at Lambeau. The first game of the 2011 NFL season with the Packers hosting the Saints as NFL Champions on a Thursday night. The Packers won a barnburner 42-34 with a goal line stand at the gun.

This Sunday’s game lacks the same luster, especially with Aaron Rodgers not being on the field. However, I think it is going to a great game and have faith in quarterback Brett Hundley. If I were you I’d check online sports betting guide and find a place to put down a few bucks on the Packers. No way the Saints should be 6-point favorites.

It was so much fun that night walking around Lambeau before the game. Seeing all the NFL Network sets and personalities. I have some great pictures somewhere of those guys.  The real festivities started with Kid Rock hitting the stage in the parking lot a couple hours before the game. It was an incredible concert, and Lambeau faithful were out in full force.

The game itself was unbelievable. The Packers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead, but as we all know, that is nothing for Saints QB Drew Brees. The Packers kept the Saints at bay and when rookie Randall Cobb took a kickoff 108 yards for a TD the Packers seemed in complete control with a 35-20 lead. But the Saints answered two minutes later and it was game on.

Cobb also had a 32-yard touchdown pass and the Packers 2011 offense was off and running. The Packers offense that year was one of the best in the history of the game, but unfortunately, the Packers defense was one of the worst in the league that year. The Packers were never out of a game, but you never felt safe when the defense was on the field. It came back to bite them big time in the playoff loss to the New York Giants.

But what I remember most about that season will alway be opening night. It was just an electric night in and around Lambeau. Just a perfect night.
