It’s got to be a different vibe at practice this week for the Green Bay Packers. Not only did they lose for the first time last Sunday, they got shellacked. Even though it’s “on to Houston” for the media, there has to be a little bit of self doubt in the back of their minds. How can we be so good and then look like that?
The Packers have bounced back well after getting trounced under head coach Matt LaFleur. They won six in a row after last year’s beating in San Francisco and then won the first four this year after another beating in the NFC Championship Game last year. So they can point to that for a little confidence boost heading into Sunday.
Bouncing back this time will be a little trickier. They aren’t going against the lowly Giants or have an offseason to prepare for what turns out to be a bad Minnesota Vikings team. This time they have to face an MVP candidate in quarterback in DeSeaun Watson. The Texans’ offense has come alive in recent weeks and there is totally different feeling coming out of this team since Bill O’Brien was fired. This should be a much different game than last week as both defenses are not very good. Could very well come down to the final drive to determine the winner. I really don’t see either side stopping the other. If anything, it should get the Packers’ offense back on track. Defensively, it could be disastrous. Even if the defense can get its pass rush going, getting Watson on the ground is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Not sure which way I’m leaning this week. I was drinking the Kool-Aid picking the Packers to beat the Bucs last week. In reality, I should have seen that coming a mile away. So why do I have a feeling the Packers’ defense is actually going to be the determining factor this week. I must be looney.
More to come…
