The Green Bay Packers went to Los Angeles to face the Rams shorthanded and distracted. They certainly played that way for most of the game. But behind a strong third quarter by both the defense and the offense the Packers pulled out a 24-19 win. It certainly wasn’t pretty, but at 3-2 he Packers are right in the hunt in the NFC and didn’t fall to last place in the division with the Bears and Vikings both winning as well.
As has become his wont, Jordan Love came out ice cold. He got lucky with a bomb to Jayden Reed to set up the Packers first touchdown but again was not sharp in the first half. Much like last week against the Vikings. It doesn’t help when your receivers are dropping balls at an alarming rate. Dontayvion Wicks can’t catch a cold yet Love keeps going to him. At some point he needs to take a seat.
Defense still the same
On defense the Packers were able to come up huge turnovers but overall they couldn’t stop the Rams when they needed to. After an eight minute drive in the fourth quarter in which the offense didn’t score, the defense let the Rams go right down the field for a touchdown without using a timeout. It was the easiest 70 yards gained in NFL history I think.
After a four-and-out by the Packers offense that didn’t even make the Rams use all their timeouts the Rams had another chance to win. After quickly moving down the field again the Rams were knocking on the door of victory. This time after getting the Rams to third down they blitzed hard on third and fourth down and were able to force incompletions to seal the win. At least defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley was going to go down swinging. This time it worked out.
The Packers now have two home games against the Cardinals and Texans and both of those offenses should scare the hell out of you as a Packers’ fan. The Packers will need to play better in all phases if they want to continue winning.
