The Green Bay Packers did the unthinkable and secured a spot in the NFC playoffs by dispatching their lovable losers from the south 17-9 on Sunday. The lowly Bears have now lost ten straight to the Packers and the loss pretty much negates their strong finish.
The Packers on the other hand, look like a formidable foe. They head into the playoffs having won seven out of their last ten games. Quarterback Jordan Love is on a tear seldom seen even for the team of Rodgers and Favre. His 27 for 32 and two tuds was stunning when considering it’s his first season and the stakes of the game. The fate of the franchise was in his hands. A loss and it would have been a long offseason and maybe raised some questions about whether or not he can win big games. Looks like he can.
The Packers thoroughly dominated the Bears, gaining over 400 yards and holding the Bears under 200. If not for a couple of gaffes the game wouldn’t have been close. Another missed field goal by Anders Carlson, a terrible play call by head coach Matt LaFleur right before the half. And a bad Love fumble in the second half all kept points off the ball. But like everything else this year for Love, I’m guessing he’ll learn from that mistake. If only Carlson was getting better, there has to be some concern there internally.

Defense shines once again
For the second week in a row the Packers defense was awesome. I attributed last week to a crappy quarterback but I thought Justin Fields would be able to move the ball both on the ground and through the air. The Packers were gashed a couple of times but didn’t give up a touchdown and made the stops when they had to. They had five sacks from five different guys and none of them was named Rashon Gary. Crazy. I haven’t heard anything about a contract extension yet for Joe Barry but if they beat Dallas it might be coming.
I predicted the Packers would win the division with Love this year and they almost did. They just ran out of games. But I’m happy with a wildcard spot and I like the Packers chances in Dallas. The Packers have never lost in Jerry World and we all remember Mike McCarthy in the playoffs.
