Packers rolling

The Green Bay Packers are finally playing like the team we expected them to be, and maybe even better. I for one did not expect the defense to be this good. The Packers offense has finally found a way to overcome the losses of Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley and it turned out to be a simple fix – Greg Jennings.

The Packers put an end to the Minnesota Vikings’ season yesterday and Jennings was the main reason. When Jennings says it doesn’t matter who covers him I think I believe him, he made the Vikings secondary look defenseless while catching three of four Aaron Rodgers’ touchdown passes.

Speaking of Rodgers, he proved once and for all that Ted Thompson made the right decision in trading Brett Favre three years ago. Favre was absolutely dreadful, and that would have been the Packers getting their ass kicked yesterday had they given in to Favre. Instead the Packers have one of the best quarterbacks on one of the best teams in the NFL. Not a bad combination.

I still think the Packers are going to need more out their running game than they have been getting, so maybe a Dimitri Nance sighting offers a glimmer of hope. Nance did something the Packers have struggled at for years and that was pick up a third-and-one on the ground. In fact Nance didn’t look half bad in his first extended playing time. It’s going to be interesting keeping an eye on him the next few weeks, especially this next one when he plays his former team in the Falcons.

The Packers are sitting good at 7-3 but are in a dogfight with the Bears for the division title. Up next, the Bears have the Eagles at home and the Packers travel to Atlanta. Bears being at home have the edge as Atlanta is almost unbeatable at home. I would be shocked if the Bears beat the Eagles but am already shocked the Bears are 7-3, so anything is possible. Plus the Eagles and Michael Vick are due for an off game after two big division games.

I like the Packers chances in Atlanta though, the Packers play well in domes and have an offense and defense that can compete with anyone. Somebody has to beat Matt Ryan at home, might as well be us. More on that later though, I have to enjoy the Vikings win one more night. Going to watch that glorious 4th quarter one more time. Good stuff!
